Five signs you might have nature deficit disorder

Nature Deficit Disorder is the idea that as humans now spend so much time indoors we are suffering physically and mentally from our disconnection with nature.

If you answer yes to any of the following questions you may need a Nature Escape.

1. Is your memory getting worse?

Studies consistently show that short term memory improves after just a short time spent in nature.

2. Do you have trouble concentrating?

Cognitive brain function improves with time spent outside and the effects can last for weeks. Many of us spend most of our day pushing our attention in one direction. Nature draws our attention in many directions and this rests and revitalises the part of our brain responsible for that concentration.

3. Do you have little enthusiasm for things? Do you find it hard to get motivated?

Spending time in nature helps us to feel well-rested and connected to ourselves This makes us more confident and clear-minded which leads to increased motivation and enthusiasm.

4. Do you feel increasingly irritable?

Being in nature reduces anger, fear, and stress and increases pleasant feelings. Exposure to nature not only makes you feel better emotionally, it contributes to your physical wellbeing, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones.

5. Do you feel generally run-down?

For example, you might find yourself feeling unwell on more days than not. You can’t put your finger on it, you just don’t feel right. Your doctor wasn’t able to find anything wrong. But you notice you feel better after a walk in the woods.

On a Nature Escapes retreat we are immersed in nature, guided by Pete and Fleur, our qualified forest guide to help you see nature in a surprising new way. You’ll feel calmer, more relaxed and able to cope with the everyday challenges life brings. Your memory and enthusiasm will improve. We’ll look after you for a weekend and take care of everything, including all the food and activities.
